Job Description

Locations: Manchester, London, or Cardiff

To ensure that DCMS can deliver its mission, the department has established the DCMS Cyber Security Group (DCMS-Cyber). A new multidisciplinary cross-departmental cadre of cyber security and intelligence specialists, DCMS-Cyber leads activities to understand, identify and respond to cyber threats.  From cyber threat intelligence analysts, to operational policy experts, DCMS-Cyber plays a central role in ensuring that vital services are protected from current and near-future threats.

This is an incredibly exciting time to be part of a new cyber security capability. As a security or intelligence professional, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to apply your skills, shape team activities, and gain significant exposure to senior decision-makers. What's more, your work will make a real difference in protecting both UK citizens and society as a whole, through the use of your skills to protect vital services.

Are you ready for a challenge?

Overview

Like many parts of government, DCMS is wholly reliant upon technology to meet its mission requirements and deliver vital services to the public. Due to the nature of the organisation and broad range of credible threats faced, seeking to exploit its services for financial or political gain, it is crucial the department maintains a strong defence.

This is a highly visible role. Working closely with internal and external partners, you will act as the front line against such threats, leading vital work that seeks to identify and respond to potential compromise through the monitoring of key systems.

Working with technical expertise, you will proactively lead efforts to identify key vulnerabilities associated with departmental devices and infrastructure, before they can be exploited.

You will also lead the department's cyber incident coordination activity, establishing clear processes that will be at the heart of DCMS's cyber response effort.

Develops security operating procedures for use across multiple information systems or maintains compliance with them; Applies routine security procedures appropriate to the role, such as patching, managing access rights, malware protection or vulnerability testing with autonomy; Develops and tests rules for detecting violations of security operating procedures with autonomy
  • Information Risk Assessment and Risk Management. Practitioner. Has a good understanding of how assessed risks are addressed as part of an approach to risk treatment
  • Legal & Regulatory Environment & Compliance. Awareness. Maintains understanding of regulations that will impact the role; Follows documented procedures for compliance.

  • Threat Intelligence and Threat Assessment. Practitioner. • Threat Understanding. Practitioner. Proactively identifies, interprets and leverages a range of relevant sources of threat information, using a variety of techniques, to understand the threat environment (local and strategic), including its nature, capability, focuses of interest and other factors associated with relevant threats

  • Experience of using Microsoft security platforms and technologies, in particular Sentinel and Defender.

We fully recognise that the requirements for our cyber roles are demanding and difficult to attain. We encourage candidates to apply, even if it is felt that not all the essential requirements are met. DCMS-Cyber are seeking candidates that demonstrate good values and a willingness to learn.
