Job summary

The Learning and Talent Development Officer will support on the delivery and management of a new Leadership Development offer, focused on the grade 6 and 7 cohort (c. 4,000 leaders) which will deliver high-impact activities that upskill our leaders, shape productive behaviours that empower, enable, and engage teams to deliver our purpose.

Reporting to the Learning and Talent Development Senior Manager, within the HR Directorate, this important role enables the delivery of the core leadership development offer, for civilian grade 6s and 7s. This includes a brand-new leadership development programme, amongst supplementary offers. 

LEAD is a centre of expertise for learning and talent development as well as employee experience. We have collective priorities linked to the strategic objectives in Defences people strategy and we work together using agile project approaches to deliver them. This means this role profile is not exhaustive and you will have the opportunity or may be asked to undertake other responsibilities, considering the changing needs of the organisation.

Job description

Support, facilitate and coordinate the delivery and management of a new leadership development programme. Manage the administrative processes and logistical activity associated with delivery e.g., arranging meetings, working with venues, range of suppliers, manage activities, support execution of leadership events. Be involved in a range of portfolio areas to enable timely and effective delivery of the programme. Drive efficiency in approach to achieve excellent learner experience and customer service, considering various tools and technology to do this.

Utilise best practice project management tools to support the team to deliver at pace, on time and to budget. Own and track core project management deliverables, create and manage planning tools to enable timely delivery and mitigate risks (e.g. risk log, schedule etc).

Provide excellent customer experience by responding to the needs of customers and stakeholders through the effective management of learner platforms. This will include managing correspondence and resolving issues and providing access to learner resources in a timely and professional way.

Support on finance, commercial and contracting process, tracking data, arranging meetings, following up on actions as part of ensuring compliance to Defence processes and policies in a timely way.

Role model a One Defence mindset, collaborate with relevant stakeholders and partners across Defence. Get involved in work streams and project areas that will support the team to deliver. Keep up to date with relevant Defence and cross-government work, sharing and promoting best practice.

Contribute to making the HR Directorate a great place to work and support the wider team to achieve success against our Defence people objectives.

  1. Ability to administer and support delivery of large scale, high-impact projects in a complex environment, using a range of project management methods.
  2. Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a varied portfolio autonomously and work at pace. Ability to manage events, handling logistical details, coordinating effectively across a range of partners with differing needs.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a professional approach to managing internal and external stakeholders; being responsive, helpful and clear in all correspondence, and able to adapt approach when needed.
  4. Ability to work with external partners (e.g. suppliers) to deliver value for money and excellent customer service.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.  This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. Selection process details

  • New Civil Service Verbal Test

When a candidate has a banked score theyre not asked to re-take the same test providing it is set at the same level. Scores will be banked for a 6 month period from the date of test completion. If a candidate is invited to take the same test against multiple vacancies, the banked score will be recognised against all vacancies and all active applications will progress.

 CSJT scores cannot be banked as each test is generated from the behaviours required for a specific role which will vary between recruitment campaigns.
