Job summary

We are transforming DCMS to meet the demands of an agile, delivery-focused department leading on some of the highest priority work for the governments agenda to drive growth, enrich lives and level-up society.

The role is based within the TACT (Technology, Assurance, Cyber Security & Assurance Team) team that forms part of wider corporate services included in the Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) directorate. The team is managed by DCMS Head of Service Operations, who is responsible for the following functions: Technology Services (IT Operations), Service Desk and Tech Bar.

Job description

The SDM will act as a lead to adequate risk assessment and scheduling of technical changes to projects and services within Service Operations. You will be responsible for different aspects of projects and delivery depending on the size and complexity of the project but often including gathering information and project planning, designing and implementing effective reporting, presenting to boards and senior management, designing and leading workshops, and appreciative research, developing internal OLAs, writing summary reports and communicating messages across teams with a variety of stakeholders.

You will do this by:

  • Creating an agile working environment
  • Identifying and helping secure the appropriate people and resources for the team
  • Making sure the delivery workstreams and wider program stakeholders, understand the CAB vision and goals, and that these align across IT Programs
  • Communicating and visualizing progress toward these goals
  • Managing and addressing risks, issues, and dependencies
  • Engaging with key stakeholders on delivery progress and challenges
  • Continually improving delivery methods and approaches to team working.

Person specification

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:

Essential requirements:

  • Proven experience in delivering projects and change products within Government or other large organizations.
  • Experience using project management methodologies and an understanding of the evolving digital landscape.
  • Proven record of successfully delivering agile, digital, complex programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. An ability to develop relationships stakeholders.
  • Can drive analysis and identify, prioritize, and implement improvements and efficiencies.

Desirable skills:

  • Good knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring, and controlling programs
  • In-depth understanding of Service Management Framework principles and processes and the ability to apply your technical knowledge in project or program activities.
  • Experience working in complex programs within central government
