The Future Network Programmes team is the delivery arm of the Digital Infrastructure (DI) directorate. Previously part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) but now sits within the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). 

Future Network Programmes (FNP) Team plans and implements research and innovation programmes in digital infrastructure, including the £250 million Open Networks Research and Development Fund.

Working closely with the FNP Knowledge Management Lead you will be responsible for ensuring relevant knowledge is captured, managed and shared across the department.  You will be required to work with stakeholders, both internal and external to promote and optimise the use of the team’s knowledge assets.  Working with the FNP Knowledge Management Lead you will be responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with the knowledge management expectations and strategy.

This is an important role within the team, and effective communication and active listening skills are essential.  You must be able to identify concepts and key themes from the knowledge base and communicate them clearly to various stakeholder groups.  You will be responsible for working with projects, supporting in the creation and dissemination of knowledge, findings and lessons across the various stakeholder groups within the directorate and beyond.

Your Role

Key Deliverables/Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to manage programme knowledge assets
  • Supporting creation and dissemination of insights, lessons and knowledge across stakeholder groups
  • Communicate lessons across the team ensuring actions are taken
  • Supporting projects in executing their responsibilities in relation to capture and dissemination of lessons and benefits. 
  • Managing and maintaining the lessons learned log and benefits trackers for FNP
  • Supporting in the maintenance of technological knowledge management solution
  • Contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting needs
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and proactively engage with the team to implement. 
  • Escalation of findings to the FNP Knowledge Management Lead
  • Supporting in the successful transition to Microsoft 365 from a Google Workspace environment as part of the wider transition from DCMS to DSIT. 

Person specification

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a knowledge management role or demonstrable equivalent skills, knowledge and experience
  • Strong IT skills including using Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel to manage and present data
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, for helping people within and outside your organisation, to progress work. 
  • Confident writing skills, able to summarise project specific findings into useful general lessons
  • Evidence of strong analytical skills and managing large data sets
  • The ability to pick up relevant subject matter and spot and assess key issues. 

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of telecoms sector
  • Experience of working in R&D portfolios, programmes, or projects 
  • Database management skills and experience
  • Experience of managing files and folders in Microsoft Teams and Google workspace environments
