Job Description

The post sits in the Group Consolidation team, though the work undertaken will cut across FRD and the wider Finance community. We are looking for a candidate with a passion for process and systems improvements. The successful candidate will have experience of working with finance systems or more broadly with reporting software or they will have strong data wrangling and data visualization skills. They will have the ability to identify software or systems-based solutions and explain the benefits of these in layman’s terms.

Your Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Championing the adoption of automation within FRD to increase the efficiency and accuracy of reporting.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across FRD, and the wider Finance community, to identify pain points and / or process improvements.
  • Identifying software/systems that could help to automate or otherwise speed the delivery of particular work processes. This will include developing cases for, and supporting the implementation of, systems / software-based solutions.
  • Project management support, in delivery of the above.
  • Participation in period-end, and year-end processes, to be completed in accordance with the period / year-end timetables.
  • Helping with the management of account codes and category codes.
  • Supporting Business Central and other system enhancements, advocating for the needs of FRD and ensuring that developments are prioritised accordingly.
  • Other tasks as required.

Note, this is a newly-shaped role, and so the duties above are subject to change.  

Person specification

Essential criteria:

Lead criteria; Ability to identify software or systems-based solutions and explain the benefits of these in layman’s terms.

  • Experience of working with software developers.
  • Experience of writing and amending reports for at least one of the following; PowerBI, Jet, PowerApps, PowerQuery, R-Markdown.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Willingness to learn about finance and accountancy.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, including Excel.

Desirable criteria:

  • Good knowledge of Business Central and / or Workday Adaptive Planning for Finance.
  • Project management experience.

Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie break situation to make an informed decision.

Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DfE, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.
