Job Description

If the link to apply for no longer works this may be because the job opportunity has closed early. We occasionally close vacancies early due to high volumes of applications. We would therefore recommend you complete your application prior to the closing date which is for guidance only.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Production Manager to join Rolls-Royce Submarines.

We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.

Join us and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.

We are looking for an experienced manager who has operated heavily within a fast moving manufacturing facility to join our submarines business. You will be able to lead, inspire and coach a team within a defined manufacturing cell. Accountable for ensuring that customer commitments are met in full, measured against agreed HSE, quality, cost, delivery, people and responsiveness standards.

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location.  It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement.  As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

Your Role:

With this exciting opportunity your main responsibilities will include:

  • PRODUCT SAFETY - Accountable for ensuring that all work is carried out in compliance with the required standard to ensure conformance to the engineering specification, and for promoting a product safety culture in the organisation.
  • QUALITY - Drive to Zero Defects. Work with all functions to reduce risks and drive product and service right first time. Ensure compliance to all relevant company legislative and technical policies and standards.
  • COST - Develop and manage agreed people budget (headcount, productivity, absenteeism). Understand and manage the cell cost centre budget and work with the team to drive productivity and reduce consumable cost.
  • DELIVERY - Deliver our products and services to customer commitments on time. Plan using load and capacity tools and manage bottlenecks and constraints to achieve flow through the cell. Understand WIP and inventory levels and drive to meet business targets.
  • PEOPLE - Optimise the capability and capacity of the cell by developing a flexible team. Develop and motivate team members ensuring they are trained, capable and effective.
  • DIGITAL MANUFACTURING - Understand the IT systems we use to drive our management and leadership activity. Be competent in the use of the tools to manage cell and people performance. Communicate to the team using digital tools, and be able to communicate digital strategy and use of innovative technology.

Who we’re looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do.  These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Understanding/knowledge of multiple disciplines demonstrating breadth of experience. Appreciation of product integrity.
  • A proven track record delivering improved operational performance in both favourable and unfavourable conditions, utilising cross-functional teams.
  • Experience of deploying continuous improvement methodologies such as lean and six sigma, ideally with Green Belt accreditation.
  • Previous management experience within a manufacturing facility is essential.
  • Attended higher education and/or leadership development programmes.

We’re an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business an individual has to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the Business conducts and the protection of certain assets a person has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non ITAR country.
